German opposition leader accused Ukrainian refugees of “social tourism”: I had to apologize

The head of the opposition Christian Democratic Union party, Friedrich Merz, accused refugees from Ukraine of “social tourism”, but soon apologized for his words.

DW reports.

“Now we are seeing the social tourism of these refugees: to Germany, back to Ukraine, to Germany, back to Ukraine,” Merz said.

These words of the leader of the German conservatives caused a flurry of criticism in his direction.

After that, Merz apologized for his words on Twitter.

“There is a lot of criticism about my comments yesterday about refugees from Ukraine. I regret the use of the words “social tourism”. This was an inaccurate description of a problem that can be observed in individual cases, ”he wrote.
